Fishing
The number of Florida's lakes, ponds and fishing bodies of water varies by source; stats range from 2000 to 8000 bodies of water. This could be an entire web site of it's own! One stastic that bears no room for doubt, Florida is home to the second largest freshwater lake in the United States. Lake Okeechobee, an Indian name that means, Big Water, spans more than 450,000 acres.  From anywhere in the state you can be fishing in a matter of minutes. Fresh water, salt water, inshore flats, offshore, bridge fishing, fishing piers - you name it Florida has it! Suffice to say the East Coast's best known body of water is the Atlantic Ocean. On the West Coast it's the Gulf of Mexico. A sure fire way to give away your tourist status is to say "Let's go to the ocean." - while on Florida's West Coast. For that matter, the body of water in the Florida Keys,  most tourists call the "Gulf of Mexico" is actually the Florida Bay or just the "Bay." Check your vacation cottage regional listings for the local hot spots, fishing reports and local charters. Keep Your Lines Tight!
